The meeting was called to order at 10:13 am by President Esther Cioffi. Toni Cramer led the Pledge of Allegiance and gave a prayer.
Vice President Bruce Mendini spoke on evacuation procedure in the event of a fire.
Secretary Barbara Williams presented the previous meeting minutes.
Helene O’Clair gave the treasurer’s report (See report) and informed us that Cathy Ellrott will be assisting the treasurer in hopes of taking over the position of treasurer in the near future.
Helene also reported on the March 27th party at the Zaloga Post and gave the report of the party expenses. She announced that the picnic is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27th at the Italian American Community Center Pavilion, cost to be determined, and explained that because we have a member who is also a member of the IACC and is sponsoring us, we are receiving a reduced rental cost. Also, she thanked Esther for all the soliciting she did to get the gift cards and making the chocolate candy favors; thanked member Tracey Hubbard for the donation of the 11 bottles of wine; and thanked everyone who assisted in putting the party together: Alida for lottery boards, Barbara for centerpieces, etc.
Bruce mentioned that, regarding the Town Senior Clubs Building, he has talked with the town supervisor who assured him that the building will be big enough to house all six clubs and will include a full kitchen and more amenities.
Trip Chair Jackie Mendini gave highlights of the April 9th trip to Aqua Turf; they only had 26 people, but they had a good time. She gave out the flyer about the Norman Rockwell Museum trip scheduled for Monday, May 22nd @ $75/$85. The deadline to sign up for this trip is May 10th. Alida has been sending out cards for special occasions.
Barbara reported that our membership is dwindling (180 primary members). We have to work on getting more primary memberships so we can get more financial support from the town. April birthdays were called for and recognized with a happy birthday song.
Need volunteers for committees, i.e., town rules are that officers cannot collect trip money or any money for parties, etc., so a volunteer on a committee needs to do that. It was clarified that the president, or any officer, cannot take advantage of trip gratuities. Esther asked for volunteers to make activity suggestions for the club.
Town of Colonie Senior Resources office gave the Club Liaison Committee members a list of speakers that we can select for our meetings; it will be turned over to our president. A discussion followed on other available discount programs for seniors. Esther talked about the mental health hotline that is available (988) if needed.
The raffle drawing was held, winners: Goodie, Toni and Esther.
